Michael Elliot, 29, and Zahmere McKoy, 23, both of Bridgeton, were found guilty after a five-week trial, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.
The jury returned a guilty verdict on Wednesday, Oct. 26,, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and reckless manslaughter, she said.
The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on July 17, 2018 in the City of Bridgeton, when the victim, 9-year-old Jennifer Trejo, was struck and killed by a bullet that ripped through a bedroom wall of her home on Church Street.
Elliot and McKoy, along with co-defendants Leroy Frazier and Charles Gamble, were charged with Trejo’s death.
Leroy Frazier was previously convicted in January 2020 on charges of aggravated manslaughter, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. Frazier was sentenced to 42 years in New Jersey State Prison.
Charles Gamble pleaded guilty prior to the commencement of trial in August 2022 to first-degree aggravated manslaughter and faces 15 years in New Jersey State Prison.
A sentencing date has not yet been set for Elliot and McKoy. Both face up to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison as a result of Wednesday's verdict.
